CCTV Surveillance System
There are some factors to be considered for correct camera selection such as:-
-
Indoor vs Outdoor – to understand where the camera is going to be installed; Dome cameras are common for indoor application and it is smaller and more lightweight. Bullet cameras are designed for outdoor application, typically made with more durable materials like metal, or even housed in an outdoor casing in order to discourage easy removal.
-
Resolution – generally 2 ways in judging a need/purpose for higher resolution camera – to identify or to clarify? If the camera is installed in a premise for monitoring of people movement, a lower resolution camera is acceptable. However, if the camera is installed is to identify the facial feature of a stranger in order to facilitate investigation for the police authority, then a higher resolution camera is highly recommended. Besides, a higher resolution camera is also commonly deployed to capture details of the smallest varying shapes and colors such as money in the counter for retail stores.
-
Wired vs Wireless – a normal wired camera will need 2 cables, 1 for video transmission and another for power. Wireless camera is able to transmit the video wireless through WiFi, but it will still need power source cabling. It is not entirely wireless, unless there’s a power source close to the wireless camera, otherwise cabling is still a necessity. Other than that, lost signal, dropped signals or worst yet lost video is possible with wireless camera. Unless it’s necessary to use wireless camera, otherwise wired camera will still be the better choice.
-
Infrared (IR) – IR is a light source generated by the camera that can be seen by the camera lens but not the human eyes. Comparing to the white led light, infrared is very efficient on power thus it can be powered by extra low 12VDC voltage. CCTV cameras are required to function 24hrs throughout the day and night, therefore energy efficiency is not only crucial for the lifespan of the camera, but at the same time cost effective for owner as well. The footage captured with an IR camera will typically be black and white.
-
Lighting Contrast – it is vital to understand the lighting condition exposed to the camera, depends on the location of camera installation. Standard surveillance cameras (without WDR) will have difficulties in scenes with different lighting contrast. Camera with WDR is always introduced to overcome light exposure problem for the captured images.
-
Lens – standard lens sizes is 3.6mm; however, a short focal length (eg: 2.8mm) provides a wide angle view, while the viewing angle is larger, the objects are smaller, suitable to be used for office with low ceiling height; On the other hand, a long focal length (eg: 12mm) gives a narrow angle of view, meaning the viewing angle is reduced but the image is zoomed in, thus a lot more detail for one area is achieved at the cost of losing a wide angle view.
Your old analogue cameras as well as new digital cameras can be connected to a modern, PC based video surveillance system. This can keep costs down and you don’t have to remove your old devices. In any case, such a “hybrid system” is future-oriented.
Video images from analogue and network cameras can be recorded on a recorder. The video images can be viewed, replayed, recorded and fed into the network at the same time. The maximum length of the recording depends on the image quality, the number of cameras installed and the size of the hard drive.
A good video cameras are equipped with an automatic switching function from colour to black/white mode. When the light intensity falls below a certain value, the camera switches over automatically enabling it to take video pictures even in the dark. Certain cameras can also be used with infrared light. An infrared illuminator emits light invisible for the human eye and makes it possible to provide good pictures even when it is completely dark.
CCTV requires electrical power similar to other equipment, in the event of a power outage, the CCTV system will also cease to operate because there’s no electricity. Therefore an uninterruptible power supply or a power supply with a 12v 7Ah backup battery is suggested for the camera’s use.
You can always check the hard disk health condition by going to DVR Main Menu > Storage > HDD Detect.
Perform periodic cleaning for the area around the DVR to make sure it is dust free along the lifespan period. Besides, good to have scheduled checking on the inner fan to ensure it is at working condition to avoid DVR overheated.
Perform periodic cleaning for the camera screen (suggested at least once in a year) to prevent blurry viewing. Besides, try to playback every month to make sure all setting are in order.
Burglar Alarm System
-
First, a break-in or other event takes place, such as a fire or a technical problem.
-
This is detected by a corresponding device (such as a door or window contact, motion detector or smoke detector).
-
The detector reports the event to the control panel. The signal is transmitted either by cable or by a wireless system.
-
The control panel is the alarm system’s brain. It evaluates the signals and decides what to do.
-
Depending on how the control panel is programmed, this chain of events culminates in a reaction: the siren sounds, the lights go on or a monitoring station is notified.
The alarm system is only armed when you want it to be. Thus, you can move like normal in your house if the “outer shell” is protected, with condition that there are special detectors for all places on the outer shell of your house. There are glass break detectors for panes and glass. Doors and windows are secured with contacts. Vibration detectors can be installed in other sensitive positions. The complete outer shell of your house is protected in this way and you can still move around freely inside. False alarms are virtually ruled out.
In wired alarm technology, a “zone” is a detection unit that is monitored by the system; this could be e.g. a movement sensor or a magnetic contact. A zone is an input on the PCB.
Silent alarms are mainly used in the case of robberies. It is intended to protect the victims as intruders are often unpredictable and they should not know that an alarm has been triggered. And one doesn’t want to hurry the offenders or even set them running. This gives the police more time. No transducers are actuated in the case of a silent alarm. The emergency call centre is however alarmed immediately.
It is advisable to replace the backup battery for alarm system once in every 2 (two) years due to depletion.
Try out the panic button once in a while to make sure the siren and call-out function is working. Besides, to perform a walk-test if you are away for a long period of time to make sure all sensors are at normal operation mode.
Access Control System
There are a range of door access control readers, i.e common readers that use a PIN to gain entry; next level uses a credential such as a card; the most secure level uses biometrics such as facial recognition or fingerprints.
-
PIN system – can be used on a single door, but not very secure. What happens if the PIN gets out? Or if one of the employee leaves your organization. You have to change the PIN constantly to keep the door secure.
-
Credentials – the most popular being used, but having the security risk when someone loses the card or gives it to someone else.
-
Biometric – capture the physiological characteristics of a person and make them the most secure form of door access control.
It is advisable to replace the backup battery for door access system once in every 2 (two) years due to depletion.
Yes. There are number of ways to integrate as followed:-
-
Use a relay controlled by the fire alarm control system (is the simplest system). The relay drops power to the electric door lock and allows people to exit.
-
Use a network to control power to the electric lock. This simplifies the wiring since it uses the existing network infrastructure.
-
Use a controlled power supply that is turned off by using a signal from the fire control box.
-
Use a smart door reader that can provide a signal to all the other door readers. A wire from the fire control is connected to one of the input connections of a door reader. The door access control software is used to communicate with all the other door readers so an enterprise control can occur. This only works if the door reader has this intelligence.
It is crucial that cardholder shall reports the card lost at the soonest. Once this has happened, the card can be rendered useless by having access revoked in the access control system database. The access control system will able to record if and where the card has been used to attempt to gain access since it had been lost.
Yes, it is because door access systems have battery backup plans for emergencies to keep the access control system functioning. If the duration of power outage is longer than the battery backup can accommodate, this is a situation in which you would need to utilize physical keys.
No, access control systems are extremely versatile and can work on a variety of entries and exits such as elevators, gates, turnstile, car parks restrictions, vehicles, and garage doors.
Autogate System
In the event of power outage, the auto gate will continue to operate by using battery power only. The size of the batteries, the current amperage draw of accessories, and the number of cycles will determine how long your batteries will last before the auto gate stops working.
Normally, there is a manual release lever located under the motor that releases the belt tension and allowing you to open the gate manually. Normally one person can accomplish this. In the case of a spring failure, it may require two people.
No. You need to buy the correct remote control to match the receiver you intend using.
